Ready or Not - the World Needs New Leadership

Updated: Oct 3

Let’s just call it: the world is in flux.

Economic and political uncertainty. War and unrest. Emerging technologies that seem to be changing entire industries by the hour - not to mention the energy crisis they are creating. The backdrop we're living in? Unprecedented, to say the least.

So, quick question: why are we still pretending senior leaders have all the answers?

They don’t.

To be clear – they never have. Not because they are unqualified, but because no one person has experience navigating a constantly changing landscape that is the world we inhabit. There is no guidebook for planetary disruption, extreme technological acceleration, and constant recalibration of what “normal” even means.

Which brings us to the heart of it:

There has never been a more important time to embody true leadership – no matter your title or management level.

The Myths of True Leadership

Somewhere along the way – or maybe it was like this from the start – we started thinking leadership came with a corner office, a senior title, a massive paycheck, and years of subject matter expertise.

Leaders were supposed to have all the answers and demand unquestioning loyalty from everyone beneath them – elevated to near-mythic status, untouchable, and unchallengeable.

But that was never really true. It’s just what we were taught.

In the real world – the messy, beautiful, chaotic one that we all live in – true leadership is quite literally defined by none of these ideas.

Instead, leadership is:

  • Questioning if there are other options when everyone else is just nodding yes.

  • Taking accountability when it would be easier shift blame.

  • Inviting others to collaborate instead of shutting them out.

  • Admitting you are unsure instead of performing the perfect know-it-all routine.

  • Leading with humanity when pressure seems to demand anything but.

This is the kind of leadership we need now. Not the loudest voices, but the thoughtful ones. Not tighter controls, but greater openness and deeper connection.

Not demanding perfection, but cultivating resilience, innovation, and – as a result – lasting success.

What Resilient Leadership Really Looks Like

Over the next few posts, I’ll be sharing a four-part series on Resilient Leadership – what it is, why it matters, and how to embody it wherever you are in your career, from Analysts to CEOs.

We will unpack the myths that have kept us all small and stagnant. Myths like:

  • Leadership is about always knowing the answer.

  • Burnout and exhaustion are the price of excellence.

  • Boundary-setting is selfish.

  • Strength means going it alone.

And instead, we'll discuss a new blueprint – one that’s collaborative, courageous, and deeply human.

Because responding to this moment thoughtfully and powerfully doesn’t mean having it all figured out. It means embracing the fact that no one person does.

Your Personal Invitation

I want to invite you to challenge yourself for today:

What leadership myth have you been carrying – maybe without even realizing it? And what would it look like to choose another option?

Maybe you’ve believed leadership wasn’t for you because you don't directly manage people.

Maybe you’ve tied your worth to productivity, thinking rest was a luxury or something you could will yourself to no longer need.

Maybe you’ve been waiting for someone else to go first.

But what if all that is standing between you and something better is a simple shift in mindset?

What if your voice, your clarity, your presence is exactly what your team, your community, and your world needs – not in 5, 10, or 15 years, but now.

Final Thought

This moment is calling something deeper out of all of us. And no, you don’t have to have all the answers.

But yes, you do have to choose to show up.

Not perfectly, but thoughtfully. With care, intention, and integrity.

Because the myth of the solo savior-leader is over. The definition of true leadership is collective.

And your next chapter? It always starts with you.
